From Davao to Lapu-Lapu: JKA Philippines Begins Planning Its Fourth Major Karate Event

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines - October 6, 2026 — An early step was a courtesy visit by PBGEN Ysmael S. Yu (Ret.), Liaison of JKA Philippines and Overall Head of the Preparation Committee, together with his Ramon Ferndando, Jr. and team. Discussions with city representatives covered the support and coordination needed for the event, including the proposed use of Hoopsdome.

The next JKA Philippines National Event is scheduled for June 2027 in Lapu-Lapu City. The planned program includes the JKA International Gasshuku, Qualification and Dan Examination, and Tournament.

Councilor Janvi Dela Serna, Sports Commissioner Vince Carungay, and SK Federation President OJ Carungay also joined the meeting.

The fourth edition is being developed as an opportunity for practitioners to train, pursue qualifications, and compete while strengthening connections within the karate community. For younger athletes, the gathering will offer a setting in which sporting ambition goes hand in hand with respect, perseverance, and self-discipline.

Lapu-Lapu City welcomed the initiative and expressed its readiness to work closely with JKA Philippines. Organizers will continue developing the program ahead of June 2027, with specific dates, final venue arrangements, and registration details to be announced once finalized.

Mr. Emeliano P. Murillo, CEO of JKA Philippines, is closely monitoring preparations as the organization works toward another successful event. The planning effort builds on the experience gained in Davao, with attention now turning to coordination, facilities, and the needs of participating practitioners.
